Search DIN Number by Name & View MCA List of Directors

A DIN number search shows a director's 8-digit DIN and helps find company directors, check current DIN status, and access relevant director information. Every director of an Indian company is generally required to have a Director Identification Number (DIN), which serves as a unique identification number for life. The DIN is issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and remains associated with the individual throughout their directorships and appointments. However, a DIN's status alone does not determine whether an individual is currently eligible to hold a directorship, as other legal and regulatory conditions may also apply.

RegisterKaro's DIN number search tool lets you search for directors by name or DIN. It presents director information and DIN status based on MCA-sourced data. The tool shows director details without an MCA portal login.

What a DIN Number Search Shows

A DIN number search brings up a director's core profile. This typically includes:

  • The director's full name and DIN
  • Current DIN status, such as Active, Deactivated, Disqualified, or Surrendered
  • Companies where the person holds or has held a directorship
  • Designation in each company, such as Director, Managing Director, or Independent Director
  • Date of appointment and tenure in each company
  • Total number of directorships held

A DIN search does not show personal details like full date of birth, address, or PAN. These fields do not appear in public director records. Identity checks beyond a public DIN lookup need the director's own documents or official verification.

How to Find DIN Number of a Director?

A DIN can be found from a director's name or a known DIN. Each route returns the director's status and linked companies.

DIN Number Search by Name

The quickest way to find a DIN is to search by the director's name. Enter the director's full name in RegisterKaro's DIN no. search box above. Ensure the spelling matches the MCA's data for accurate results. Filter by state when a common name returns many results. Matching results show each director's DIN, current companies, and DIN status.

Note: Small spelling differences can affect results. Try close variations when a search returns no match.

Search Director by DIN Number

To find the director behind a known DIN, enter the DIN directly into the search tool. This brings up the director's name, status, and the list of companies linked to that DIN. Enter all 8 digits of the DIN, including leading zeros.

How to Search DIN Number by PAN

MCA does not offer a public search to find a DIN using only a PAN. To search DIN by PAN for one's own DIN, three routes work: the DIN allotment email from MCA, the MCA V3 account registered with that PAN, or the company secretary of any company where the person is a director. The Verify DIN-PAN service needs both numbers and confirms only whether they match.

How to Find Directors of a Company?

Finding a company's directors is a different process than finding a person's DIN. For the first case, you already know the company, and all you need is to find the directors in it. The right method depends on how much you already know.

With one known director name, search it in the tool above. Each director profile lists co-directors, so one name reveals the rest of that board.

With only the company name or CIN, search it on RegisterKaro's company details search. The company profile lists each director with DIN, designation, and appointment date.

MCA Master Data List of Directors

To view the MCA master data list of directors for a company on the MCA portal:

  1. Visit the MCA website and open the "MCA Services" menu
  2. Select "View Companies/LLP Master Data"
  3. Enter the company's name or CIN
  4. Complete the CAPTCHA
  5. Open the company's Signatory Details section to see its current directors and signatories with their DINs

MCA21 is the ministry's e-governance system, and V3 is its current portal version.

No login is required for this, and basic master data access is free. MCA only charges a nominal fee for certified documents or more detailed filings.

MCA DIN Search: Find a Director on the MCA Portal

RegisterKaro presents MCA-sourced director information in a simpler, more user-friendly format, making it easier to search and view director details without navigating through the MCA portal. If you want to verify the information directly on MCA, you can use its Director/Designated Partner Master Data service.

  1. Go to the MCA website and open “MCA Services”.
  2. Under “Master Data Services”, select “View Director/Designated Partner Master Data”.
  3. Enter the DIN, or the director's name for an MCA DIN search by name.
  4. Submit the search to view the director's associated company or LLP information.

The MCA director search returns the same core details as our tool. This includes the director's DIN, current status, and linked companies. No login is required, and the search itself is free. The main difference is how the results are shown. MCA's portal returns one director's record per search. RegisterKaro's tool enables you to search by name or DIN and filter by state or directorship count in the same view.

DIN Number Check: How to Check DIN Status

A DIN is issued for life but loses active status when compliance lapses or disqualification applies. Here is how to check DIN number status.

DIN Enquiry on RegisterKaro and MCA

Search for the director by name or DIN in RegisterKaro's tool above. The status shows next to the profile. On MCA, the DIN enquiry runs through the "Enquire DIN Status" service under MCA Services. No login is required for either method.

What Does Each DIN Status Mean?

Each DIN status indicates a different condition. Understanding the status can help you identify what it means and what action may be required. Here's what each one means, and what resolves it:

  • Approved/Active: The DIN is valid. The director can sign forms and hold directorships normally.
  • Deactivated (KYC non-filing): From 31 March 2026, DIR-3 KYC is no longer an annual filing. A DIN holder must complete KYC once every three consecutive financial years, on or before 30 June of the relevant year. If the required KYC is not filed, the DIN may be deactivated. Reactivation requires filing DIR-3 KYC with a ₹5,000 fee (G.S.R. 943(E), 31 December 2025).
  • Deactivated (duplicate DIN): This happens when MCA detects two DINs linked to the same person. It's fixed differently from a KYC deactivation. The director must file Form DIR-5 to surrender the extra DIN, not file KYC.
  • Disqualified: Section 164(2) provides for disqualification when a company fails to file its financial statements or annual returns for three consecutive financial years, subject to the statutory conditions. The disqualification lasts for five years. Under Section 167(1)(a), the director's office becomes vacant in all companies except the company that committed the default. The director continues in the defaulting company. Removal of disqualification requires the applicable statutory process and may involve relief from the appropriate legal authority.
  • Surrendered: The holder surrendered the DIN through Form DIR-5. Rule 11(b) allows this only if the person was never appointed a director and never used the DIN for any filing.
  • Cancelled: Rule 11(a) allows cancellation for a duplicate DIN, a DIN obtained wrongfully or fraudulently, death, a court declaration of unsound mind, or adjudged insolvency. A duplicate DIN is cancelled on an application in Form DIR-5.

What Is a Director Identification Number (DIN)?

A DIN is an 8-digit number issued by the MCA and the basis of every DIN search in India. Section 152(3) of the Companies Act, 2013 bars appointing anyone as a director without a DIN, and Section 155 limits each person to one DIN.

For a DIR-3 application, the applicant signs the form using their Digital Signature Certificate (DSC). The form is then verified by the company's full-time company secretary, managing director, director, CEO, or CFO.

For companies being incorporated, SPICe+ includes the DIN allotment as part of the incorporation filing. The complete DIN application process depends on whether the DIN is being obtained through DIR-3 or SPICe+.

Director Check Before Dealing With a Company

A director check reviews the people behind a company before a business relationship. It covers:

  • Director identity and DIN status: Confirm the director's name and DIN, and check whether the DIN is active, deactivated, disqualified, or surrendered.
  • Current directorships: Review the companies where the person currently holds directorships.
  • Company and LLP associations: Review the companies and LLPs linked to the person as a director or designated partner, where the information is available.
  • Directorship count: Compare current directorships against the Section 165 limit.
  • Disqualification: Check and confirm that the director is not disqualified under Section 164(2).
  • Appointment and cessation details: Review available appointment and resignation or cessation records for the relevant company.
  • Company status: Check the current status of the company in MCA records.

This check is only one part of business due diligence. Significant transactions also need a review of the company's MCA filings, financial records, and other relevant documents.

Did You Know? Under Section 165 of the Companies Act, 2013, an individual can hold directorships in up to 20 companies, with a maximum of 10 public companies at a time.

Why Use RegisterKaro's DIN Number Search Tool?

The MCA portal works well for official DIN searches. However, it is designed for individual lookups and requires a CAPTCHA for each search. RegisterKaro's DIN No. Search Tool uses MCA data for a faster DIN lookup in India. Here's what sets it apart:

  • One search box for name or DIN: Enter either one to get results.
  • Filters for state and directorship count: Filters help narrow down results when multiple directors have similar names.
  • A full view of connected companies: Each result shows a director's complete list of connected companies in one place, with no need to open each company record separately.
  • Regularly refreshed MCA data: The listing is pulled from MCA and updated on a regular basis, so DIN status and company links reflect current records rather than a stale snapshot.
  • Co-directors on every profile: Each profile lists the other directors on the same boards.
  • Combined paid-up capital: Each profile totals the paid-up capital of linked companies.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is a DIN number search free?

Yes. RegisterKaro's DIN number search tool is free, and MCA's basic master data and DIN enquiry services charge no fee for a standard lookup. MCA only charges a nominal fee for certified copies or more detailed filings.

Is DIN lookup data official?

The data comes from public MCA records, and the update date appears above the results. The MCA portal remains the official record for filings, tenders, and legal use.

Why does a director not appear in DIN search results?

The name entered may not exactly match MCA's records, since even small spelling differences can return no match. The person may hold a role, like a sole proprietor or a partnership firm partner, that doesn't require a DIN at all. Or the appointment may be too recent to show up yet, if it hasn't been reflected in the latest data refresh. The DIN may also be deactivated or surrendered.

Can a DIN be searched without an MCA login?

Yes. RegisterKaro's tool and MCA's basic master data and DIN enquiry services need no login for a standard search.

How often is the director data updated?

The update date above the results marks the latest MCA data refresh. For real-time status, check the MCA portal.
